The Boulders are privately owned by an individual in California. They were dug up from the river Kwai in Thailand, which was quite the controversy at the time. Although no one could actually enjoy or see them while underwater in the river, once they were dug up and displayed, they have such a spectacular form and size, each about 30 feet in height. I am in awe every time I see them and knew that I had to photograph them to share their extraordinary nature with everyone. I decided that it would be amazing to drape human bodies in the nude in and around them. I had spent a few years studying sculptor and had contacted my teacher to ask if he had a slew of nude models I could use for the shoot. The plan was to set up a test day, which I would use to figure the poses I wanted and the re create them later for the shoot day. To my amazement, once we all arrived at the location, the models were like almost animals set loose in the wild and they began to climb and pose everywhere. I could barely keep up with them. The result was a very organic shoot that I ended up using as the series. It also turned out that my choice to use sculpture models rather than regular models, was right on point as they literally molded into the Boulders. In some images, you actually have to look and see where the body meets the boulder. The result is a very strong yet natural portrait of nudes on boulders.
